Good Dogs and 2025 Bingo
Hello!
It's 2025!! A normal thing to want at the beginning of a year is some amount of clarity. Unfortunately, I have none to offer you. Sometimes I think that I have a job that is somewhat similar to the TV pundits. I've been in internet arguments with people like that and, let me tell you, it helps me understand that I don't want that job!
But one thing those people seem to have buckets of is clarity.
One thing they have very little of, though, is accountability. This time of year, those folks tend to make a lot of predictions about what the next year will hold, and when it inevitably turns out that their predictions were bad, no one really notices.
People want clarity, and so pundits sell us some. Perhaps this is harmless! But I am glad I'm not in that business. I can't predict the price of a stock or what will happen in Ukraine. So when I made my 2025 Bingo Card this year, I did it with the knowledge that I'm actually quite scared about what this year will hold, but also with the knowledge that no great harm has ever been done by goofing around a little bit on New Year's Day.
I will make one prediction, I guess. On my bingo card, one of the squares will get checked off if "A Weird Pickle Thing" happens. And, folks, if I know anything about my culture, it's that we will not let a whole year go by without at least one weird pickle thing happening.
So that's my 2025 prediction. Beyond that, we're just gonna have to see.
We're here because we're here,
Hank

In some countries, far more people consider friends very important than in others
Simon van Teutem
This chart shows the share of people who consider friendships “very important” in their lives.
There are clear differences between countries: Northern Ireland (70%) and Sweden (65%) rank highest, and the United States (51%) and Indonesia (42%) are near the middle. In comparison, in Peru (17%) and Myanmar (12%), smaller shares of the population say that friendship is very important to them.
These differences suggest that the value people assign to different relationships varies significantly across cultures. In some societies, friendships might hold a central role in everyday life, whereas in others, people might place greater importance on family, work, or personal independence.
It's worth keeping in mind that such surveys don't only capture people's different views on friendship but also how they communicate their views when asked in surveys. For example, in some countries, people might be quicker to call something very important than in others.

We’re Here Because…
We asked you to tell us what you’re looking forward to in 2025 and you delivered! Thank you to everyone who sent a bit of excitement to our inbox.
I am getting married August 1st 2025! I can't wait ❤️
I'm getting my BA in English Creative Writing, and starting towards my MA. At almost 40, with a chronic illness, mental illness, and history of homelessness, It's just not something I ever thought possible. I love beating the odds! ❤️ Happy New Year! I hope you all get a chance to beat the odds too!
In 2025, I am really excited to watch some more hockey! I have finally convinced a group of friends to go to games with me, so we have picked some dates to buy cheap tickets. We've been to one so far, and it was so fun! Let's go Blues!
Getting my music and acting career more off the ground. Especially my music career.
I'm most excited to get married in 2025! My partner and I have been together for almost 5 years and we're so excited to celebrate with our friends and family!
I wanted to share my 2025 excitement: I will be welcoming my first baby (and future nerdfighter) into the family this year! My due date is in June :)
I am most looking forward to graduating high school and then going on a trip to England and Scotland in the summer!
In 2025, I get to see people I love. I'm traveling to visit family on the other side of the country who I haven't seen in almost twenty years. I'm traveling to meet a friend I've known for over a decade but haven't seen in person ever. I'm going to get my first tattoo, thanks to said friend helping me decide what to get first. I'm going to ring in the new year with friends I only get to see once or twice a year. In 2025, I'm looking forward to love, and love, and love.
I'd have to say the things (plural - It's hard to pick just one) I'm looking forward to/ most excited for are another year of going to see a ton more live music, and getting back out on the ocean volunteering for a charity that teaches sailing once the winter off-season is over!
I'm looking forward to summiting a continent. In 2023, at the age of 36, I had knee replacements. Before surgery, I decided to set a recovery goal. Adventurous me chose to summit a continent. Practical me chose the flattest continent. Recovery has gone well and I'm saving up money. Plan to go to Australia in the spring and summit Mt. Kosciuszko!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Send us a silly 2025 prediction. If it happens, you get bragging rights for the rest of the year.
